Facial Masks: Your skin is craving one right now!

Ever wanted to have a beautiful glow just before a big event or maybe help clear up some of that excess oil your skin seems to be producing? Well, using a weekly mask will help; it’s your mini facial at home. Trying to find the right mask for you can sometimes be overwhelming, there are so many options!

The best way to choose a mask best suited to you is to determine your skin type. Many people don’t really know what skin type they truly have and end up using the wrong products, which results in break outs or dry skin. So take the time to know your skin!

Dry Skin
If you have really tight pores or if you can’t even see them then you are most likely a dry skin type. Your skin craves moisture and oils. Yummy ingredients like shea butter, avocado oil, vitamin E and jojoba will leave your skin feeling soft, supple and plump.

Oily Skin
Are you constantly battling an oily T-zone, an all over shine, or constantly trying to remove those darn blackheads? Then yes you are an oily skin type. The most common mistake oily skin types make is drying out their skin, whether through over exfoliation or harsh products. Remember when you over do it your skin compensates and ends up creating even more oil, and no one likes that! When choosing a mask, look for ingredients like Kaolin Clay, this will help absorb excess oil, also look for ingredients like witch hazel, tea tree, or lemon. These ingredients will help battle the oil and are also anti bacterial.

Dehydrated
Dehydrated skin isn’t actually a skin type but because so many people suffer from this skin condition I added it in to the mix. Remember dehydrated and dry are different! The skin is the last place to receive any water from the body, and most people these days drink more caffeine than they do water which is why so many people suffer from surface dehydration. It is the number one reason why people end up getting deep set wrinkles and premature aging. A lot of oily skin and sensitive skin types suffer from this because it is the last thing they want to treat.

Anyone with dehydrated skin will see superficial lines on their face; even if you are an oilier skin type your skin may feel “tight” sometimes. A weekly mask will definitely help. As a normal-oily skin type I have always steered clear of anything that could possibly trigger my oily skin habits, but products made for dehydrated skin are my saviour! The best masks out there contain Hylauronic acid and have ZERO oils in them, and that is the best part! All the scrumptious ingredients get absorbed right into the skin and there is no oily residue, its a big drink of water for your skin. Results, glowing plump skin!

Sensitive
A lot of people are self proclaimed sensitive skin types with none of the characteristics to match, so I am going to help you determine if you really are sensitive. If your skin is easily triggered or sensitive to certain ingredients then yes you are sensitive. If your skin feels hot or is need of some general soothing then yes you are sensitive. Most people who are true sensitive skin types suffer from rosacea, eczema or other dermal problems. If you are sensitive your skin craves ingredients that will cool and soothe your skin. Look for lavender, aloe, cucumber or chamomile. The best mask to use will be a gel based mask, it will be more soothing. Your skin will thank you!

Masking Tips!

-                     Exfoliate before you use your mask, this will help the ingredients penetrate into the skin and you will get better results.
-                     Don’t over do it! Once a week is plenty.
-                     Don’t under use or over use your products. The product box will generally tell you how much to use, but as a general rule of thumb, a medium layer.
-                     Don’t sleep with your mask on unless you are absolutely sure you can. Leave your mask on for 12-15mins no more, no less, unless specified.

Happy Masking!
